About This Workbook

Discover the Amazing World of Polar Bears

Explore the frozen Arctic and discover how polar bears survive in one of the coldest environments on Earth with this beautifully illustrated Polar Bear Science Workbook for Kids.

Children begin by learning that polar bears are mammals belonging to the bear family. They explore key characteristics such as their thick fur, small ears, powerful bodies, large paws and adaptations for life in the Arctic.

The workbook introduces other members of the bear family, including the Brown Bear, American Black Bear, Giant Panda and Sun Bear, encouraging children to observe and compare their habitats, diets and physical characteristics.

Detailed anatomy pages explain how polar bears are built for Arctic life. Children investigate small ears, thick fur, a layer of fat (blubber), black skin, powerful legs and shoulders, partially webbed feet, wide paws and a short tail. A dedicated labeling activity then reinforces the main body parts.

Children also explore the three polar bear groups presented in the workbook—Arctic Polar Bear, Kane Polar Bear and Southern Polar Bear—and compare their characteristics and locations.

The Polar Bear Life Cycle follows development through cub, young cub, yearling, subadult and adult. Children sequence the stages and investigate how cubs grow, learn from their mothers and gradually become independent.

A scientific Animal Profile introduces habitat, diet, lifespan, size, weight, offspring and behavior. Children then investigate important Arctic adaptations, including thick fur, a layer of fat, big paws, white fur, small ears and tail, and strong swimming abilities.

Further activities explore what polar bears eat and how they hunt. Children investigate seals, fish, birds and eggs, whales, carrion and vegetation before exploring the polar bear’s role within an Arctic food web.

The Habitat & Home section explores sea ice, oceans, mountains, snowy land and ice floes, while additional activities cover fascinating facts, vocabulary and scientific observation.

Conservation plays an important role in the workbook. Let’s Protect Polar Bears! encourages children to think about melting sea ice, pollution, oil spills, climate change and human disturbance, as well as actions that can help protect polar bears and their Arctic home.

Creative activities, Math with Animals and Final Challenges give children opportunities to apply their knowledge through writing, calculations, labeling, problem-solving and scientific thinking.

One of the strongest science pages is Polar Bear Dissection, an illustrated internal-anatomy activity showing the brain, lungs, heart, liver, stomach, trachea, intestines, kidneys, bladder and fat layer (blubber). The following page reinforces this knowledge with a complete-the-organs activity and an illustrated polar bear skeleton.
